'London is the most exciting city on the planet – let there be
no doubt, in 2012 we are going to put on one of the greatest shows on
earth, a cornucopia of wonderful outdoor cultural events – large scale
and small, from east to west and from north to south'
- Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
Starting this weekend in Woolwich on Saturday morning then bringing to live the streets of Wimbledon, Kingston, Richmond and Islington will be Showtime: Entertainment Everywhere - London's biggest ever outdoor festival.Running from 21 July to 9 September and taking place all over London will be the most extraordinary mix of outdoor arts seen in the capital including circus, carnival, theatre, dance, music and opera. Encompassing the best of British street arts, international performers including Catalan, Chinese Belgian, French and Dutch artists, plus a feast of music from beat box to electro swing.
From Barnet to Bromley and Havering to Hillingdon, just some of things Londoners and visitors can enjoy will be trick cycling, daredevil escapology, magical make-overs, a half-hour Hamlet, animated bouncing kangaroos and see the return of the biggest beasts ever to walk the earth and it’s all free!
Plus, look out for pop-up screenings in near
you, get involved in a music filled Bandstand Marathon in city parks and
get creative in 99 Tiny Games to play across the capital... if you can
find them!
